Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) Scholarship

The Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) Scholarship is a scholarship program provided by the Government of Indonesia for international students from developing countries who wish to pursue Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degrees at Indonesian universities. The scholarship was initiated in 1992 during the 10th Conference of Heads of State of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and officially implemented in 1993. Since 2002, the program has been expanded beyond NAM member countries and is now open to students from developing countries across Asia, the Pacific, South America, Africa, and Eastern Europe. The KNB Scholarship aims to strengthen people-to-people relations and to prepare future global leaders through quality higher education. Scholarship recipients will study at leading universities in Indonesia while experiencing the country’s rich multicultural and multilingual society. In 2026, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with 47 host universities, will offer approximately 200 KNB Scholarships for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs.

Procedure

  1. Download the KNB Scholarship Offering Letter from KNB Scholarship website : https://knb.kemdiktisaintek.go.id/
  2. Applicants contact the Indonesian Representative in your origin country (from the embassy of Republic of Indonesia or Consulate General of Republic of Indonesia only) and submit all administrative and academic documents requirement to Indonesian Representatives to get letter of recommendation from Indonesian Representatives such as:
    • Curriculum Vitae;
    • Scan of valid passport;
    • English Proficiency Test (Applicant from non English-Speaking Countries);
    • Recommendation Letter from The Employer/Immediate Supervisor (in English or Bahasa),
    • Academic Recommendation Letter from Previous Schools (in English or Bahasa),
    • Academic Certificate and Academic Transcript from previous degree (in English or Bahasa) that has been legalized by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s country,
    • Recommendation letter from the potential research supervisor in one of the universities providing partner of the KNB Scholarship (for doctoral applicant only),
    • Statement of purpose of their studies in Indonesia (for doctoral applicant only) in English or Bahasa
  3. Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (embassy of Republic of Indonesia or Consulate General of Republic of Indonesia) collect data and review all documents requirement for Recommendation Letters from prospective KNB Scholarship applicants, especially regarding the applicant’s educational background (for example: Grade Point Average, Final Diploma, Institutional Reputation), work history (if any) and the validity of the documents submitted by the applicant as a basis for providing a Recommendation Letter (applicants cannot register without a recommendation letter from the Indonesian Representative in the relevant country);
  4. After obtaining a Recommendation letter from the Indonesian Representative, prospective KNB Scholarship applicants are welcome to register online via the KNB Scholarship website (https://knb.kemdiktisaintek.go.id). Please note that, KNB Scholarship Management only accept the recommendation letter from the Indonesian Representative in your origin country (from the embassy of Republic of Indonesia or Consulate General of Republic of Indonesia only) that signed at 2025;
  5. All required documents must be scanned into electronic documents in .jpeg or .jpg format with a maximum size per file of 300kb to avoid technical problems when uploading files due to poor internet connection or interference with the server;
  6. Please note that, one applicant only have one account to register in KNB Scholarship website, so make sure that all your document requirements are complete and correct before you finish the registration;

Requirements

  1. The maximum age to apply for the scholarship is 21 years old, no more than December 31st, 2025.
  2. Hold a High School degree. Please be advised that bachelor degree holder is not eligible to apply for the bachelor degree scholarship.
  3. Have the English Proficiency Test Score minimum as follows: TOEFL ITP of 477, TOEFL IBT of 53, IELTS of 5,5, TOEIC of 510 or equivalent (the certificate must be obtained within the last 2 Years). Participants of foreign nationality who come from English-speaking countries, or participants from university who are enrolled in programs in English (stated in participant diploma/transcript), do not required to submit the English Proficiency document, by attaching official proof from their home university.
  4. Provide the recommendation letter to apply for the KNB scholarship from the Indonesian Embassy or the Indonesian Consulate General. Please note that, KNB Scholarship Management only accept the recommendation letter from the Indonesian Representative in your origin country (from the embassy of Republic of Indonesia or Consulate General.
  5. Provide recommendation letter to apply for the KNB scholarship from The employer/immediate supervisor in English or Bahasa (if working).
  6. Provide Academic Recommendation Letter from previous schools in English or Bahasa.
  7. Provide The Scanned Academic Certificate and Academic Transcripts Copy of High School Degree in English or Bahasa, that has been legalized by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s country.
  8. Prove of citizenship by submit Official Passport, which is still valid for at least December 31st, 2026.
  9. Complete the online application form in http://knb.kemdiktisaintek.go.id
  10. All required documents must be scanned into electronic documents in .jpeg or .jpg format with a maximum size per file of 300kb to avoid technical problems when uploading files due to poor internet connection or interference with the server;

  1. The maximum age to apply for the scholarship is 35 years old, no more than December 31st, 2025.
  2. Hold a bachelor degree. Please be advised that master degree holder is not eligible to apply for the Master Degree scholarship.
  3. Have the English Proficiency Test Score minimum as follows: TOEFL ITP of 500, TOEFL IBT of 61, IELTS of 6,0, TOEIC of 575 or equivalent (the certificate must be obtained within the last 2 Years). Participants of foreign nationality who come from English-speaking countries, or participants from university who are enrolled in programs in English (stated in participant diploma/transcript), do not required to submit the English Proficiency document, by attaching official proof from their home university.
  4. Provide the recommendation letter to apply for the KNB scholarship from the Indonesian Embassy or the Indonesian Consulate General.
  5. Provide recommendation letter to apply for the KNB scholarship from The employer/immediate supervisor in English or Bahasa (if working).
  6. Provide Academic Recommendation Letter from previous schools in English or Bahasa.
  7. Provide The Scanned Academic Certificate and Academic Transcripts Copy of Bachelor Degree in English or Bahasa, that has been legalized by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s country.
  8. Prove of citizenship by submit Official Passport, which is still valid for at least December 31st, 2026.

  1. The maximum age to apply for the scholarship is 40 years old, no more than December 31st, 2025.
  2. Hold a master degree. Please be advised that Doctorate degree holder is not eligible to apply.
  3. Obtain a recommendation letter in English or Bahasa from the potential research supervisor in one of the universities providing partner of the KNB Scholarship.
  4. Provide a statement of purpose that at least states the purpose of their studies, the origin of their interests in studying in Indonesia and pursuing their chose research topic and their plans for the academic future (dissertation proposal) in English or Bahasa.
  5. Have the English Proficiency Test Score minimum as follows: TOEFL ITP of 530, TOEFL IBT of 71, IELTS of 6,0, TOEIC of 640 or equivalent (the certificate must be obtained within the last 2 Years). Participants of foreign nationality who come from English-speaking countries, or participants from university who are enrolled in programs in English (stated in participant diploma/transcript), do not required to submit the English Proficiency document, by attaching official proof from their home university.
  6. Provide the recommendation letter to apply for the KNB scholarship from the Indonesian Embassy or the Indonesian Consulate General.
  7. Provide recommendation letter to apply for the KNB scholarship from The employer/immediate supervisor in English or Bahasa (if working)
  8. Provide Academic Recommendation Letter from previous schools in English or Bahasa.
