Requirements
The International Relations Study Program, University of Jember, located in Jember, East Java, has been accredited by FIBAA Germany since 2022 and accredited as ‘Excellent’ by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN PT) since 2024. The International Relations Study Program was established in 1964 as one of the oldest study programs in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and is one of 13 International Relations programs in Indonesia accredited as ‘Excellent.’ Each year, the International Relations Study Program admits 150 students from various regions in Indonesia and several countries, including Madagascar, Thailand, and Cambodia. Currently, the total number of students has reached 700, residing in Jember. The green and lush campus environment greatly supports the learning process. The International Relations Study Program focuses on understanding and analyzing relations between countries, global issues, as well as the political, economic, social, cultural, and environmental dynamics at both regional and global levels. More specifically, the International Relations Study Program develops studies in Gastrodiplomacy and International Agribusiness as unique features of the program, supporting the university’s vision. To enhance students’ learning and skills, the International Relations Study Program has developed a Political and Regional Studies Laboratory, a Diplomacy Laboratory, and an Export-Import Laboratory.

Course Description
This course explains the history, theory, and process of diplomacy, starting from pre-negotiation, formulation, and final outcomes. It also discusses diplomacy in the context of identity and national interests, as well as mediation. The course further covers topics such as mediation, multitrack diplomacy, security and trade diplomacy, the relationship between security and trade diplomacy, and diplomacy in various countries.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successfully completing the course, students will be able to:
- Analyze diplomacy in relation to a country’s national interests
- Analyze the implementation of a country’s foreign policy through diplomacy
Prerequisites
Desire to enhance knowledge and improve critical thinking skills in the introduction to international relations
Participation Limit

Course Description
The Gastrodiplomacy course explains the concepts, theories, and cases in the study of diplomacy by using gastronomic wealth as an instrument to achieve a country’s soft power. The discussions in this course also cover the relationship between gastronomy and public diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, hard power, and soft power. This course uses case studies from several countries as units of analysis, including identifying opportunities and challenges, as well as their relation to global issues such as food sustainability and climate change.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successfully completing the course, students will be able to:
- Analyze the implementation of gastrodiplomacy in a country using various approaches
- Analyze the opportunities and challenges of gastrodiplomacy in a country
Prerequisites
Students who enroll will be expected to gain knowledge of animal physiology. Fieldwork experience in ecology study is highly recommended.

This course discusses concepts, theorization, and the development of issues in international relations. The discussion of theories or concepts is focused on various theories and concepts within the mainstream of international relations, particularly those that fall under the three major paradigms: realism, liberalism, and constructivism.
