UNEJ Launches #AussieBanget Corner in Collaboration with the Australian Consulate General – Surabaya

Universitas Jember (UNEJ) now has the #AussieBanget Corner in its Main Library (UPA Perpustakaan ), establishing a dedicated information hub for students and the campus community on Australia. The #AussieBanget Corner offers a wealth of information on Australian culture, study opportunities, and the prestigious Australia Awards scholarship program, opening pathways for Indonesian students to pursue education in Australia.

Glen Askew, representing the Australian government, expressed his pride at the inauguration, which also marks 75 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Indonesia. According to Askew, “As education has long been a cornerstone of the Australia-Indonesia relationship, the Australian Consulate is proud to establish #AussieBanget Corner at UNEJ, making it the fourth location in East Java and the first in the Tapal Kuda region.” This area includes eastern Pasuruan, Probolinggo, Lumajang, Jember, Situbondo, Bondowoso, and Banyuwangi, offering enhanced access to students in the region.

For UNEJ, the #AussieBanget Corner inauguration holds special significance, aligning with the university’s 60th-anniversary celebration. UNEJ’s Rector, Dr. Ir. Iwan Taruna, M.Eng, IPM, expressed pride in hosting this facility, which strengthens ties with Australian universities such as Western Sydney University and the University of Canberra. According to him, the reading corner expands learning opportunities for UNEJ students and supports the university’s mission to deliver high-quality education.

The launch of the #AussieBanget Corner, alongside the signing of an MOU between UNEJ and the Australian Consulate General – Surabaya, underscores a shared commitment to advancing educational collaboration and celebrating a key milestone in the diplomatic partnership between both nations, now enriched through UNEJ.
